With the team for next year’s World Cup to be finalised in July, an initial squad included the Ogilvie and Govers brothers, as well as Jack Hayes and Alex Mackay.

Player of the national championships final Emma McLeish and goalkeeper Elanor Woods were chosen in the Australian women’s squad.

Kookaburras player Flynn Ogilvie was the leading goalscorer at the tournament with 13, as NSW won the final 5-2 against the ACT.

“There is an exceptional level of experience in the squad with numerous players representing Australia at Olympic level,” coach Steve Willer said. “There are also eight players who have competed at the indoor World Cup, including Tim Deavin, Kieran Govers, Flynn Ogilvie, Heath Ogilvie, Kurt Ogilvie, Tom Sinclair, Matthew Hotchkis and Ben Rennie.

Completing the double the NSW women thrashed Western Australia 5-nil, with McLeish scoring twice. Continuing the national carnival at Illawarra Hockey Centre, the under 21 competition started on Tuesday.

The NSW men’s team began with a 9-1 demolition of Queensland, before edging out Victoria 5-3, while the women defeated Queensland 7-1 in their opener.
