Earlier this week, Dominic Paronetto and Peter McDonald fished on board Blue Water Magic and had an unforgettable blue ribbon day on marlin with a 3/2/1 score sheet and what could have been a grand slam – three marlin species in one day.
The first strike was a big blue marlin that nearly spooled the reel on the first run, only to have the hooks thrown. So they headed a bit further south, found a bait ball on the sounder, dropped over a rigged live bait that was harassed by a large striped billy in less than 5 minutes but it fell away without hooking up.
Off to the next bait ball, repeated the above but this time Dom stayed attached and after four years and heaps of 0/0/0 scores, he finally broke his duck with a superb eating black of around 55 kilos.
As Dominic said, “team effort” and he has promised Pete will be on strike.
Entries are flooding in at the Compleat Angler Illawarra at Windang for their $5000 Fishing Challenge with some excellent captures being recorded.
