Inspector Jim Fryday, from Wollongong police, said a “large amount” of Apple MacBook computers and iPads – worth about $50,000 in total – were taken from St Columbkille’s Catholic Primary School at Corrimal on Thursday morning.
The break-in happened between midnight and 12.30am.
Police later stopped a 22-year-old man for a roadside breath test in the neighbouring suburb of Bellambi, about 2.50am.
It will be alleged 13 iPad Minis were found during a search of the vehicle.
Inspector Fryday said inquiries revealed the iPads had been taken during the break-in at the school.
The man was charged and will appear in Wollongong Local Court on January 31.
Investigations are ongoing.
