The 32nd Illawarra Folk Festival drew a colourful crowd to Bulli Showground throughout the weekend.
For Jessica Millman, who performs and leads workshops as part of Woonona-based Silver Lotus Tribal Belly Dance, the festival has been a lifelong tradition.
“I’ve been coming since I was a little girl. My uncle Vince Brophy would … play as part of the Bulli Bush Band and I would watch him.
“Now I’m here with my daughter.
“It’s the best weekend out. One of the things I love most about the ‘Folkie’ is it’s really safe and friendly. It starts on the Wednesday night, so by the time you get to Sunday not only is everyone friends, and we all feel like family, everyone is collaborating. People get called up on stage to join in songs.”
Crowds were not deterred by Sunday’s heavy showers.
“It just kind of makes everyone laugh,” Ms Millman said. “You can’t keep the folkies down!”
