Aided by a gun rails ride, Eva Luna stormed to an emphatic three length victory over Mitch Newman’s Marrock in the Illawarra Turf Club Class 1 Handicap (1400m).
It was the second time Bell has ridden the four-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago to victory at Kembla Grange and the provincial jockey believes there are bigger things ahead for Peter and Paul Snowden’s mare.
“She has always been a nice filly I thought,” he said.
“Things just haven’t suited her in town. She was able to come down here today and clean them up.”
“I think she is up to city quality.
“Whether things just haven’t panned out for her in the past when she has made that step I don’t really know.
“I think she is a definite mid-week or maybe Saturday class horse.”
Bell combined with the Snowdens again in the following race to complete a running double. The jockey rode Royal Navy to a classy win in the Summer Racing At Kembla Grange Maiden Handicap (1400m).
The wins helped Bell (52 points) close the gap to jockeys premiership leader Chad Lever (67 points).
