Dillard's late-game heroics marred Kickert's 24-point game, which came on nine-from-nine shooting from the field, including  four three-pointers.

Brisbane were already short-handed due to injury heading into the heritage-round game at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and were further hampered by news star point guard Adam Gibson was ruled out due to a calf injury he picked up in the side's 85-80 loss to the Illawarra Hawks in Wollongong on Friday night.

Kickert led the way early for the Bullets, with 11 of the home side's first-quarter points as the home side built an early lead.

But the Breakers closed to 43-35 at the half, largely through Dillard, who finished with a game-high 28 points.

Momentum swung back and forth in the second half and the visitors made their move in the dying stages of the game, with the Bullets failing to make the most of Kickert's hot hand.

In the final minute, Dillard stole the ball from Jermaine Beal and went one-on-one with Shaun Bruce, hitting a step back jump shot as time expired to give New Zealand its first lead of the game, and an unlikely come-from-behind victory on the road.

Brisbane coach Andrej Lemanis said losing a game his side led until the final minute was particularly tough.

"That one obviously really stings, there was so much good stuff throughout the game and a lot of evidence that if we play a certain way we are a very good basketball team," he said

"Obviously down the stretch now there is some confidence issues or something going on, probably the last four minutes of the game it was unfortunate that we made a lot of bad decisions both on offence and on defence.

"It's certainly my job as a coach to ensure that down the stretch we go to something that's a comfortable level for us, Kicks is nine of nine tonight and I don't think he touched the ball in the last three minutes, we've got to be smarter down the stretch in understanding where our bread and butter lies and who we need to play through and how we need to get that done."

Dillard, who finished with a game-high 28 points, was thrilled to have nailed the game winner and give his side their second straight victory.

"I was very confident, I just relied on the work that I put in in the off-season and the coach and my teammates had the trust in me to take the final shot, and that's what every basketball player dreams of right there, shot clock or game clock running down and you've got an opportunity to win it for your team, I'm just glad I could step up for us tonight," he said.

Brisbane plays Adelaide in Adelaide on January 19 before their next home game on January 21 against Melbourne United.
