POLITICIANS ARE OUT OF TOUCH
If ever Australians needed further proof of just how far out of touch with the real world former Speaker of the Parliament Bronwyn Bishop is, she provided that proof conclusively in a recent Sky News interview.

Obviously still embittered from her inglorious dow fall arising from the “choppergate” incident, Ms Bishop appeared, when commenting about the Sussan Ley abuse of position; to be using that issue as a means of “papering over” the “choppergate” rort.
With her nostrils flaring and eyes flashing, Bronwyn Bishop claimed Sussan Ley’s was yet another victim of the Socialist subversive movement existing in Australia.
When asked to be more specific about the alleged existence or influence of Socialism in the downfall of her former colleague Ms Bishop responded “they are everywhere”.
Proving beyond all doubt, for those whose ideology is firmly stuck in the Cold War era, putting the blame for their errors and omissions on “Reds under the beds” is their lie of choice.

COUNCIL ADMINISTRATION
I am totally against amalgamation of the Wollongong and Shellharbour councils.
The operation of both councils should be put into administration by the State Government for a maximum of three years.
Then back in service as two councils.
The mayor should be voted for as an independent mayor vote.
The person standing for mayor should not be a member of any political party nor should their Immediate family.
We look at Wollongong Council and Stuart Park. Council has allowed Lagoon Restaurant to operate for a number of years in Stuart Park but says no to the Skydive doing the same thing.
If they believe this to be correct cancel the Lagoon.
Next look at Mayor Saliba whose ability to run Shellharbour I believe is questionable.
She has sold off the old council building and library at Warilla well under value then leased back these facilities which will cost council well into excess.
Next she has sold off Lamberton House at a much lower price and leased it back. This will create a further loss. No offset for the Hub.
Finally she turned her back on the older people of Shellharbour late last year and handed over to Warrigal Care the HAAC Centre operations and Wollongong Council, Shellharbour Community Transport.
I would like to point out to Shellharbour residents it was the Late David Hamilton the ALP Mayor who put us into administration. It is now our current ALP Mayor Saliba that now heads our council to amalgamation.
I rest my case.

LANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ISSUE
The Mercury's comprehensive cover of the Skydive issue, January 13t, examines the conflict at the centre of dispute.
The privatisation of a prime piece of the peoples' estate.
The elected councillors who will decide the issue must objectively weigh up the contesting claims.
Those of the business lobby and those opposing them.
The democratic system places the decision in their hands.
This means the statement by Mayor Bradbury that a meeting to discuss it "was a waste of time" should be ignored.
As should his statement that "it was not the responsibility to councillors to approve DAs".
They are elected to do just that.
While it is true that past councils have been corrupted that does not mean elected councils should be discarded and that control be left to bureaucrats and the “experts”.
We know where that ends.
