Fortunately the operations in question were simulated to help NSW SES volunteers prepare for the upcoming storm season.
They were also conducted in response to the multiple flood rescues undertaken during the east coast low last June.
NSW SES learning development officer Grant McClory said about 30 volunteers were on site during the skilled personal development day, which included rescuing a stranded person from a car in moving waters
‘’Since the 2016 flood rescues we have been working away in the background reviewing our skills. This allows us to get in the water and put it in practice,’’ he said.
‘’In no way do we advocate go out in the car in flood waters but should people ignore our message and go out, we need to be ready to rescue them. As innocent as that water may seem it can quickly bring you undone and you become stuck, isolated or stranded...’’
