A prestigious ensemble in their home country, they often play for various Chinese leaders and foreign dignitaries, and will perform at the temple Sunday February 12, from 1:30pm.
The concert is aligned with the founder of Fo Guang Shan, Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s philosophy to propagate Buddhist teachings through cultural activity.
“Nan Tien Temple enjoys celebrating Chinese New Year with all members of the community, regardless of race or culture. Multiculturalism allows us the opportunity to experience celebrations from all over the world,” said Reverend Zhi Li from Nan Tien Temple.
“We are delighted to showcase this Orchestra to promote harmony in diversity.”
Festivities begin on Chinese New Year Eve on Friday, with the temple opening at 8pm for offerings and a rare chance for visitors to hit the gong at the Main Shrine.
This is one of only two opportunities where people other than reverends can use it; the symbolism being that it is a "Bell of Peace" to welcome the New Year.
Free activities this weekend also include lion dances, vegetarian food fair, blessing ceremonies, exhibitions, calligraphy and more.
