The 33-year-old NBL veteran of more than 300 games announced following the Snakes 85-79 win that the 2016-17 season will be his last.

Beveridge only learned of the decision in the post-game press conference but was quick to praise the man he first met two decades ago.

“Wortho and I go long, long way back. 20 years,” Beveridge said.

“The guy is one of the most tremendous competitors that I’ve ever met. Off the court he’s one of the most amazing people in what he does for the community but when he steps over that line it’s white-line fever, it’s nasty. He’s a winner, he's a competitor and everywhere he goes his team will always be in the equation.

“Had I known [of the announcement] I would have given him a big hug after the game because I’m pretty proud of Wortho for everything he’s done.”
