WOLLONGONG CELEBRATIONS
Belmore Basin, North Wollongong
Activities start early in the morning with the Illawarra Aquathon (8am) and continue throughout the day with multiple entertainment stages, stalls, amusement rides, hands-on children's activities, street theatre and beach and water fun culminating in a spectacular fireworks display over Wollongong Harbour at 9pm.
Plan your trip:
By car: Park your car at JJ Kelly Park and catch the free bus. Buses operate every 15 minutes from noon-11pm to and from JJ Kelly Park and the WIN Sports & Entertainment Centre.
By bus: The free Gong Shuttle runs every 20 minutes from 8am-noon then every 10 minutes from noon to 11pm. Buses will be re-routed via Corrimal Street due to road closures.
Other bus services will run to Sunday/public holiday timetables.
By train: Catch the train to North Wollongong (closest station) and walk, or catch the free Gong Shuttle from North Wollonong, Wollongong, or Fairy Meadow train stations. A drop-off point and parking for people with limited mobility is available in Harbour Street.
Mount Kembla Bowlo, Kembla Heights
Ten-tinny spud bowling, thong toss competition, Triple J's Hottest 100 Countdown, Aussie-inspired tucker including cheese and Vegemite pizza, prizes and more at 4 Church Lane.
Headlands Hotel, Austinmer
Gourmet Barbecue and the Triple J Hottest 100 from 12pm-5pm at 1 Yuruga Street.
SHELLHARBOUR CELEBRATIONS
Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra
The day includes a huge $4 breakfast (7am to 10am), citizenship ceremony, civic ceremony including presentation of the Australia Day Citizen Awards and ambassador address and free entertainment.
Shellharbour Club, Shellharbour Road
Aussie-inspired tucker, live music on the terrace and a fireworks show at 9pm. All the festivities start from 6pm so get in early to get a prime viewing position for the fireworks show.
KIAMA CELEBRATIONS
Hindmarsh Park
Breakfast will be served at various venues, and visit Hindmarsh Park, off Terralong Street, for an afternoon full of music, child friendly entertainment and fun.
There will be a Citizenship ceremony held in Hindmarsh Park at 11am followed by a concert and the kids will be completely occupied with the many activities being held.
Sebel Harbourside
Special Aussie Day menu, free beer tasting with Endeavour Beer, live music, and a jumping castle for the children.
