Maddinson said he had wrestled with his form before being selected for Australia and was left “frustrated and disappointed” at not making the most of his opportunities.
“The hardest part is probably getting there, even thought my form hadn’t been great leading in,” he said.
“It was just about trying to puts some performances together and warrant selection for future games, which I was a little bit frustrated and disappointed with hos I went.
“I had pretty good opportunities in Melbourne and Brisbane to nail down a spot and couldn’t grab them.”
The South Coast junior was run out for one in the Sydney Sixers’ Big Bash final loss to Perth on Saturday.
He returns to the NSW lineup, with the Blues needing victory over unbeaten Victoria to keep their hopes alive of hosting the Shield final.
“I want to do as well as I can, I want to score hundreds,” Maddinson said.
“As many as I can. I don’t want to think about Test cricket.”
North Dalton Park could be the unlikely Shield final host if NSW can finish on top of the standings, as their SCG headquarters is out of action due to AFL commitments.
Cricket NSW chief executive Andrew Jones last week told the Mercury “Wollongong would be “very high on the list” of Shield final hosting options.
