Lake Illawarra Little Athletics stars off to the state titles

Heatwave conditions plus a cooling storm greeted Lake Illawarra Little Athletic Centre’s talented squad at the recent Region 4 Championships at Wagga Wagga, with the athletes looking to book a spot at the state titles.

 Talent:Lake Illawarra LAC  under 17s Nikita Freeburn, Hayley Waine, Shaye Lee Frier and Emma Babic competed in the Javelin at Wagga Wagga.

Lake Illawarra LAC sent a strong team of 40 athletes from the under 8’s to 17’s, with 17 athletes finishing in the top two in their events and gaining automatic qualification to the State Championships at Homebush on March 17-19.

 Leading the way in earning a spot at the state championships was Drew Langdon who set a new Region 4 record in winning the Javelin, plus won the Boys Under 11 Shot Put and Triple Jump and was second in the Discus).

The other Lake Illawarra athletes to earn a spot at the state titles were: Nikita Freeburn (1st, Under 17 Girls 1500m),

Ryan Keen (1st Under 11 Boys Discus, 2nd Under 11 Boys Shot Put, Javelin and 60m/h); Ryan Waine (1st Under 17 Boys Discus, 2nd Shot Put); Noah Jackson (1st Under 9 Boys Shot Put, 2nd Discus); Mikayla Markovski (2nd Under 9 Girls Shot Put); Shaye Lee Frier (2nd Under 17 Girls Javelin); Charlie Ryan (2nd Under 11 Girls 1100m/w); Georgia Ryan (1st Under 9 Girls 700m/w); Aleisha McGarry (2nd under 9 Girls 700m/w); Abby Quick (2nd in the Under 9 Girls 800m and High Jump); Joshua Jackson (1st Under 13 Boys 1500m/w); Ruby Keen (1st Under 14 Girls 1500m/w); Emma Hutchison (1st Under 17 Girls 1500m/w); Zac Haywood (2nd Under 14 Boys Javelin); William Gamble (2nd Under 17 boys Javelin); Jada Schillert (2nd Under 12 Girls Triple Jump).

The club also had several third-placed athletes who may qualify for the state championships depending on results in the other regional carnivals.

The third -placed athletes were Gabrielle Marrott (U15 Girls 300m/h and 1500m/w); Jessi Babic (U17 Girls 100m, 100m/h, Long Jump and Triple Jump); Joshua Hosking (U10 Boys 100m, Shot Put); Shaye Lee Frier (U17 Girls Discus); Lochlan Vrana (U11 Boys Shot Put); Hannah Hosking (U 12 Girls 1500m/w); Gabrielle Marriott (U15 Girls 1500m/w); Joseph Strecker (U14 Boys 800m); Sienna Strecker (U10 Girls 800m); Georgia McEwan (U17 Girls 200m); Mikayla Markovski (U 9 Girls Discus).

Parker Ivanovski, competing in the Under 8s,  isn’t eligible for the state titles, but came a great third in the Shot Put.
