The two went out together for a meal to mark Mr Gordon’s birthday and Mr Phillips’ 29th anniversary with WIN.
Mr Gordon said he liked to keep his birthday low key and was not interested in the arrival of a cake and happy birthday being sung in front of other restaurant patrons
So he invited Mr Phillips and a dozen people from WIN Television to acknowledge the man he described as the face of the regional network in NSW.
“We had a very nice dinner at Harbourfront Restaurant. On the same day it was his 29th anniversary and my birthday. Don’t ask me what number mine was,” Mr Gordon said.
Mr Phillips thanked his boss for being so generous in marking his anniversary on his own birthday. He said he appreciated everything Mr Gordon did because without him there would have been no comprehensive coverage of local news on television in the region for many years.
“We have always said the headquarters will always be in Wollongong and we will always have a half hour of local news. And Geoffrey as far as we are concerned is irreplaceable. He really has become the icon of WIN”.
