There were a few billfish caught last weekend but not near the numbers as before, but there were a few fish caught this earlier the week.

There were quite a few average sized dollies taken and heaps tagged, but the big guys are still playing hard to get even with the water temp still up and the current is pushing relatively hard as well.

For those chasing snapper and other reef species there were some excellent catches again last week with majority of the better bags coming from the shallower reefs.

Snapper, teraglin and sampson fish were still about in good numbers on all the inshore reefs and plenty of squid being shadowed by solid kingies and big bonito have been around as well.

The flathead drifts continued to produce the goods with some solid fish being pulled from around the northern drifts off Stanwell Park Beach as well as some solid flounder getting about.

Beaches continued to fish extremely well for all species of fish even the school jewies have been taken in better numbers as have the beach flatties and bream.

A surveillance operation led by DPI Fisheries officers has resulted in the seizure of more than 3300 illegal abalone and shark fin in western Sydney - the biggest seizure of abalone in more than two decades.

Following an extended and targeted surveillance operation by fisheries officers, a 59-year-old man from Mogo was arrested in the western Sydney suburb of Berala where his vehicle was intercepted with the assistance of NSW Police. Some 439 abalone were seized along with documentation allegedly relating to abalone trafficking.

DPI Fisheries Investigators executed a search warrant on the house at Berala and seized 2870 alleged illegal abalone weighing about 300 kilograms and 40 kilograms of shark fin. Investigations continue.
