Australia’s top race pilot and one of the top 14 in the world Matt Hall has been locked in as one of the star attractions for the Wings Over Illawarra at Illawarra Regional Airport on May 6-7.
The former RAAF Fighter combat instructor is the only Australian ever to compete in the Red Bull Air Race and has been runner-up in the last two world championship seasons.
His appearance at Wings Over Illawarra will follow his appearance in Abu Dhabi and just before he races in San Diego.
They are the first two rounds of the 2017 Red Bull Air Race series that features only the best pilots internationally.
Hall said he was looking forward to performing in the Illawarra because “my travel schedule around the world for the Red Bull Air Race doesn’t allow me to be part of many airshows in Australia. But I always want to return to Wings Over Illawarra. I like to show my appreciation of the dedication and hard work of the organisers, Mark and Kerry Bright, for putting on such a wonderful spectacle. “I also like to recognise the efforts the event’s corporate partners make in supporting the aviation industry.”

Kerry Bright said Hall’s thrilling aerobatics in his Extra 300L aircraft would be a thrilling sight for anyone attending the 2017 airshow at Albion Park. “His impressive flying skills continually enthralled audiences around the world. Wings Over Illawarra is the major annual air show in NSW, as well as being the only air show experience within easy reach of Sydney and Canberra”.
Information and tickets at www.wingsoverillawarra.com.au. Ms Bright said there was a diverse program lined up for May. It includes ground displays and flying demonstrations of historic, military, modern and aerobatic aircraft.
There are also vintage car and motorbike displays, children’s rides and other aviation and technology related exhibitions.
The NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW has secured Wings Over Illawarra from 2017 – 2019.
