Police found wanted man Cameron Allan, 44, of Bendigo, about 11am on Friday morning in a town in South Australia's rural Riverland area.
He was arrested on outstanding warrants in Renmark, 254 kilometres northeast of Adelaide.
Central Victoria Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation team detectives are heading to South Australia to extradite Mr Allan.
Police thanked those members of the public who had helped in the search launched a week ago.
It was initially believed Mr Allan was heading towards the NSW area of Wagga Wagga and Gundagai.
The Department of Health and Human Services confirmed last week that it had terminated his employment.
"At the Department's request, his working with children check has also been cancelled," a spokesman said.
