A development application on public exhibition with the council proposes bringing the event back on March 25.
However, organisers are cutting it fine to gain approval for the third Wollongong event, with the public exhibition period for the application due to close on March 3.
So far, there are no details of the event on the City Slider website, however the event had also been flagged by the council’s traffic committee.
The City Slider, which has been held in cities around Australia, last came to Wollongong in January last year, following a two-day stint in March 2015.
The six-metre-wide waterslides are designed to allow thrillseekers to hurtle down the road on bright yellow tubes.
As in the past, the set up would include the large 300 by six metre waterslide and a 25 metre mini slide, as well as music and “a street party that will run for 12 hours”.
In the development application currently on exhibition, lodged on Monday by Cecil Budd Lty Ptd, says the event will run from 9am to 8.30pm.
The promoters have proposed a road closure of Military Road, between Church Street and Darcy Road from 6pm on Friday before the event.
It would reopen by 5am on Sunday March 26.
The event uses recyclable water – with about 15 litres used per attendee – and thrillseekers will be encouraged to save water before they attend, albeit by a non-enforceable “social contract” included on the ticket.
