Harris is expected to fly to Los Angeles on Friday to be with his critically ill father.
He will miss game one of the series in Perth on Sunday but is expected to be back in time for game two in Wollongong.
The American import put in an inspirational performance to help the Hawks book their grand final spot in a 106-98 victory over Adelaide 36ers in game three of their final series.
Harris scored 17 points in win.
Illawarra are also set to sweat on the fitness of star big-man AJ Ogilvy, who played less than eight minutes on Thursday night after suffering what appeared to be an ankle injury.
