A development application lodged with Wollongong City Council is seeking approval for the 30 day event, held in the arts precinct, to operate for one month a year until 2021.
The Spiegeltent is a large, ornate travelling tent made from wood and canvas which will be set up outside the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre as a comedy and theatre entertainment centre this April.
Merrigong says a five year approval for the event would help Wollongong to become “energised and buzzing”.
“The revitalisation of the City Centre is recognised as critical to Wollongong maintaining its status as a regional centre,” the application said.
