But trailblazers from a very different era, now based at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) in Albion Park Rail, will also feature at the prestigious biannual international air show in Victoria.
HARS will fly its ‘’iconic’’ airliners Connie and Convair to the show on Monday, much to the pleasure of president Bob De La Hunty.
‘’We have these two beaut airliners which we're taking to showcase really to the world,’’ he said.
‘’The airshow is huge down in Victoria with thousands of international visitors, 40 odd air chiefs from all over the world as well as heaps of companies from all over the world.
‘’This is great exposure for us and we’re looking forward to representing the Illawarra.’’
Mr De La Hunty said the Connie and Convair were both trailblazers in Australia in the 1950’s. The super constellation Connie was used for international flights by Qantas back in the 50’s. Convair flew with TAA (Trans Australia Airlines) between Australian capital cities. It has since been re-branded as a Qantas plane.
The Avalon Air Show, which runs from February 28 to March 5, includes an extensive ground display of military aircraft.
