The event ditches venue hire, traditionally an independent artist’s biggest cost, to pave the way for artistic collaborations with Wollongong City Council, businesses and individuals.
Creative producer Tim Monley said organisers are aiming for performances at 20 different locations within walking distance to the Crown Street Mall and will hopefully include 20 to 30 different shows.
Already confirmed as venues for the festival are Ziggy’s House of Nomms, Humber, Bar, Wollongong Art Gallery, Little Prince and Wollongong Central.
“Having a different space to use creates a whole lot of other ways to think of performance - and that’s exciting, I think,” said Circus Monoxide chair Jonathon Christley.
Artists wishing to exhibit or perform can register now by emailing: thegong@anywherefest.com Registrations close March 26.
Anywhere Theatre Festival runs August 17-27, with performances anywhere but a theatre and art exhibitions anywhere but a gallery.
