With wet weather predicted throughout the week, Price, who trains alongside his father Robert, plans on monitoring things closely as the stable weighs up what path to take with several runners throughout this week.
The first of those comes in the form of Dashie De Luxe at what is expected to be a rain-affected track at the Illawarra Turf Club.
The five-year-old has accepted for the Kembla Grange Benchmark 65 Handicap (1600m), but Price wasn’t keen to commit his mare to the race if the weather deteriorates further.
“She failed on [heavy ground] the other day at Canterbury so I am very guided by the weather on [Monday night]," he said. “Especially going the mile. I think there might be a bit of a question mark over the mile on a heavy track.”
On Thursday, Price will look to qualifier the stable’s second runner for the $390,000 Provincial Championships final in April when Budderoo Knight runs at Hawkesbury. The stable took out the opening heat at Wyong last week thanks to a sensational front-running ride from Kathy O’Hara on Noble Joey. Fellow Kembla trainer Michelle Ritchie’s Better Not Blue flashed home for second.
Budderoo Knight can double the stable’s representation in the final with a top-three finish at Hawkesbury.
“He has had no luck his last three starts so hopefully that can change on Thursday,” Price said.
“If it is too wet we might have to look towards the Kembla heat.”
