Steven James Woods is on trial in Wollongong District Court this week accused of firing four shots at Karen Lyson’s Clematis Crescent home on September 17, 2015. He denies the allegations.

Two of the bullets hit a Toyota Rav 4 parked at the property, while the other two bullets lodged in the front wall of the house. No one was injured.

The court heard Woods and Ms Lyson (and her then-partner Craig Brindle) were not on speaking terms and there had been animosity between them, despite the fact Woods was dating Ms Lyson’s daughter.

Ms Lyson confirmed Mr Brindle had gone to Woods’ house on the morning of the 17^th and damaged his vehicle.

Ms Lyson said she was sitting in the dining room eating pizza about 11 o’clock that night when she heard loud bangs, which she thought were fire crackers.

She said she looked out her window and saw two men on her front lawn, one of whom had “something in his hand” which she thought was a gun. When asked to identify that man, she told the court “I seen [sic] Stevie Woods”.

“What did you see about the person that made you recognise it was Steven Woods?” Crown prosecutor Andrew McMaster asked.

“Because I know him; his face, his mullet, everything,” she responded.

She confirmed his current hairstyle – shaved and balding on top with shoulder-length blonde, wavy locks starting part-way down his head – was the same as he’d had in 2015.

“He’s always had a mullet ever since I have known him,” she said.
