Mr Higbid, of South Coast Prestige Properties, does everything he can to help the Melanoma Institute of Australia after losing his fiance Amanda Zoratta to melanoma. He is donating $1000 from every house listed and sold during February and March and is taking donations online in his quest to raise $10,000.
He, step-daughter Garbiella Zoratta and daughter Emma Higbid are joining melanoma survivor Jay Allen for part of his 1200 kilometre Longest Melanoma March. They are doing the 25 kilometre leg between The Entrance and Gosford on March 28. Every step will be inspired by the memory of Ms Zoratta’s never give up spirit during her fight with melanoma. She had a mole removed from a foot 16 years ago and then noticed a lump in her groin a decade later. It was diagnosed as melanoma and she lost her battle in January 2015.
Mr Allen is a long time friend who has previously walked from Sydney to Melbourne to raise funds and awareness.
“He knows I am always in to help any way I can and keeping Amanda’s legacy alive. It is a horrible disease to watch someone go through,” Mr Higbid said.
Melanoma kills more people aged between 20 and 39 than any other cancer and the family hopes the walk will help create hope for others.
A Wollongong Melanoma March leaves Stuart Park at 8am on March 12. Registrations at www.melanomamarch.org.au.
