Masoe will make his playing come back from a knee injury for the newly-rebadged Illawarra in Saturday’s NSW Premiership game against Penrith.
The 27-year-old hasn’t played since 2015, with St Helens in the English Super League.
His last NRL game was in 2013 with Penrith, after making his debut at the Roosters in 2010.
“He’ll play, it's great to see,” McGregor said.
“This time last year, he was getting a knee reconstruction.
“To have a big, strong, powerful man come back in the near future, it puts a bit of excitement back into the squad.
“And a lot of pressure on positions, knowing that man’s got to come back, because he’s a very good footballer.”
Matt Dufty, who suffered a knee injury at the Auckland Nines, is named at fullback for Illawarra.
