The award-winning saxophonist and composer has been back and forth to the nation several times to collaborate with Kolkata-based rock drummer Gaurab Chatterjee, khamak player Raju Das Baul and folk singer Deo Ashis Mothey from the Darjeeling mountains.
The group recorded an album, Havelli, in the middle of the Rajastani desert several years ago.
While the album has already been launched overseas, Keegan said there was much more red tape to get his friends to Australia for a promotional tour but the hard work has paid off.
“It’s a real fusion of sounds and at the end of the day we’re all musicians,” he said.
“It just comes out sound beautiful after a bit of rehearsing."
Since working on this project Keegan said it’s inspired him to learn more about Australian indigenous culture with a focus on musical traditions.
