Despite the weather, the “Hobie Polarised Southern Bream” series still went ahead in Sydney Harbour last Sunday and as always, a strong contingent represented from our South Coast.
Surprisingly, there were plenty of good bream about, even with the foul weather that took many competitors by surprise.
But at stumps, five South Coast teams held our flag in the top 10 spots with a heap more in the top 20 out of more than 50 entrants.
Best bag of five fish was a tad over 4.81 kilos total weight followed by many crew pulling 3 kilo plus totals.
A big congratulations to Callan Young and Matt Green representing Team Leisure Coast Bait and Tackle who made the top 10 in only their second tournament.
They also got the biggest bream for the event also with a “horse” to Callan of 1.2 kilograms.
Tournament rules require all fish to be returned alive after weighing, so there are some quality bream up in Sydney Harbour.
Closer to home there wasn’t great deal of fishing done over the weekend.
Every angler is studying the weather charts with this weekend looking to be pretty good at this stage.
The stir-up of these last few weeks should see plenty of fish on offer and guy are just hanging to get out there before the weather cools towards winter.
Since the New Year there have been excellent numbers of billfish around locally and the reef structure of Wollongong and Bandit reefs would be prime spots to try if the bait schools have not dispersed too much.
Before the blow, the dollies around the FADs were very much legal plus and were suckers for live baits or big plastics.
The snapper boys are ready to rumble after the big seas and whilst anchoring and a burley trail is the go for some, other prefer to drift and even jig plastics.
Usually after such weather conditions, big reds move in close the rocks, so don’t travel too far guys.
