While alongside and about to be tagged and released, Chris noticed the marlin was wearing an older tag so the details were recorded, it was re-tagged and sent on its merry way.
Subsequent detailed inquiry with DPI/Fisheries tagging program staff revealed the marlin was tagged by none other than Craig Rushby, proprietor of Compleat Angler at Windang.
Craig tagged the billy wide off Culburra back on April 20, 2016 and estimated it to be around the 110 kilo mark and Chris re captured the same marlin off Bermagui and estimated that after being at liberty of 308 days it had moved those few kilometres south and was still roughly the same 110 kilos.
The hapless marlin took live and skipped baits on both occasions and not lures.
