She says she’ll be “busting her a**” and enjoy staying up late, having time for herself before heading home after the crazy schedule of a whirlwind Australian tour.
Touring will now become more of a challenge for the “Proserpina” singer as her eldest son starts school so this could be the last time for a while she’ll make her way to our shores.
“When you have kids your career takes a hit, especially as a woman,” she said.
“But my kids are proud of me and I don’t want to quit making music and I need to support them, so it really is a [balancing act].”
Wainwright says it’s always an “adventure” coming to Australia because of the distance she has to travel making it still seem “exotic”.
Surprisingly it’s not our cuddly creatures or stunning oceans that captivate the musician, but our smashed avocado on Isourghdough.
“I think the food is really, really amazing; and of course the wine,” she said.
“There’s a lot of great restaurants and a little bit of a bend on health.
“Being from Canada we don’t always have the luxury of having [fresh] produce.”
Martha Wainwright plays Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul, Tuesday March 14. Tickets through www.ticketmaster.com.au
