The business owner is using Newtown and Melbourne as inspiration to breathe life back into the dull streets with a “playful atmosphere”.
His next project comes to fruition on Monday, with the grand opening of the Dapto Beach Kiosk at 102 Princes Highway.
“I’ve always loved the beach kiosk vibe, so I thought even though we don’t have a beach that shouldn’t stop us having that vibe and a colourful, playful atmosphere,” Mr Murray said.
The revamped shop front uses turquoises, pinks and beach decor to hopefully lift the spirits of customers and passes by.
“Everyone wants that third space, like, they’ve got their work they’ve their home so a place to [chill out],” he said.
“There’s so many families and young professionals … looking for that place that’s close to home.”
It’s the first time in years the suburb will have a cafe dedicated to healthier options with juices, smoothies, salads and protein balls on the menu alongside traditional fish and chips and burgers.
Mr Murray has been using social media platform Pinterest to collect ideas, drawing inspiration from other hip and happening places.
“I’m nervous just because I’m [in love with] the decor but I always question myself, I need reassurance,” he said.
Mr Murray is also responsible for organising a community funded mural last month, painted on the laneway between his other business Alexander’s Cafe and the Dapto Hotel.
“It’s definitely brought in more customers and a more happier vibe around town,” he said.

“I think people look for that social side of life and I don’t think Dapto had that before. But it creates a more enjoyable town, like if you see art everywhere it makes you happy and feel good.”
It comes as Dapto now has a place for Bikram yoga with the recent opening of the Peak Physique Hot Yoga on Bong Bong Road.
While live music and cabaret has been perking up the nightlife at Little Joe’s Kitchen and bar on the Princes Highway.
