A brace from debutant Patrick Antelmi and a goal to Nico Bernal helped the Wolves get off to the perfect start to their 2016 campaign.
Antelmi was one of three players in the squad making their debut, with more than half the starting eleven made up of players who joined the club in the off-season.
Given those circumstances, Timpano was happy with the first-up result but felt the Wolves best was still yet to come.
“In the first game we were quite good and got a good result but I do think we still have a lot of improvement in us still which is the positive thing,” he said.
“As I mentioned during last week, with new players it is going to take time to gel but we have a had positive preseason.”
Returning Wolves Steve Hayes and Michael Robinson were both awarded starts in the win while Hayden Morton, Yuzo Tashiro and Hayden Morton all also had their debut.
Goalkeeper Justin Pasfield as well as skipper Chris Price, Brendan Griffin, Josh MacDonald and Bernal were the only returning players in the starting side.
Despite all the new additions, the Wolves started their round one clash looking like a well oiled machine.
They peppered the Parramatta goal in the opening 10 minutes but couldn’t find a way past impressive Eagles goalkeeper goalkeeper Christopher Moore.
Former Japanese international Tashiro made his presence felt with some encouraging play throughout the first 45 minutes before both teams went into the sheds at 0-0.
Antelmi wasted no time opening his account for the Wolves three minutes into the second half and it was quickly 2-0 when Bernal finished with a low volley in the 58th minute.
Parramatta got a goal back through Gosue Sama’s head in the 67th minute to set up a nervy conclusion to the match for the Wolves.
But it proved to be only a minor hiccup as Antelmi finished the Eagles off with his second.
Timpano felt it was a solid all-round performance.
“We started the game very well,” he said.
“In the first 15 minutes we set the tone. We probably should have been a couple up because we had some really good chances in that period.
“The game evened itself at half time. It was 0-0 at half time but we were dominating the game.
“I was very happy with how the boys responded when it got to 2-1 under a fair bit of pressure.
“I think it was good to be in that kind of situation and not have it as easy as it could of been but still show spirit and fight.”
Wollongong play away again next weekend against Sydney Olympic at Belmore Sports Ground.
Olympic looked good in a season-opening 2-0 win over Bonnyrigg White Eagles on Saturday night.
