IHMRI funded two awards to celebrate outstanding work by researchers.
One of the recipients of $3000 was Associate Research Fellow Dr Rebecca Stanley who was recognised with the Dame Bridget Ogilvie Citation Award for research excellence.
Dr Stanley’s work focuses on physical activity among children, particularly Aboriginal communities in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
IHMRI is also funding two new Dame Bridget Ogilvie Career Advancement Scholarships open to all early to mid-career IHMRI affiliated female researchers.
The scholarships, worth $1500 each, are to assist financially with opportunities to enhance career profile.
The money can be used for training, leadership roles, a conference, a grant review panel or assistance during grant writing, reporting or periods of publication.
IHMRI executive director Professor David Adams said IHMRI aimed to build a strong community of collaborators and funding awards and scholarships was a practical way to initiate positive change in the progression of women through their research careers.
IHMRI statistics reveal there are more female PhD students than male but the balance changes as careers progress, with significantly more male professors.
