2.45pm: Authorities have warned commuters of delays during the afternoon peak as NSW TrainLink investigates why the lead car of an empty passenger train left tracks at Port Kembla on Tuesday morning.

The train was moving from the Port Kembla stabling yard to Wollongong, where it was due to begin passenger services, when the incident occurred.
“Work is underway to put the carriage back on the tracks and this is expected to continue into the evening,” the parliamentary secretary for the Illawarra, Gareth Ward, said.
Buses continue to replace trains between Wollongong and Port Kembla.
“Passengers travelling between these stations and on other parts of the line should listen to announcements and allow additional travel time,” NSW TrainLink said.
The South Coast Line is expected to be affected during the afternoon peak, the NSW Transport Management Centre said.

Commuters are being urged to allow for extra travel time.
The partial derailment is causing delays to the Illawarra and South Coast train lines.
The line was partially closed about 5.30am.
