The inseparable Corrimal siblings who have never lived more than five minutes away from each other, turned 90 on Tuesday.
Family and friends threw a surprise 90th birthday party for the twins on Saturday.
Brooke Redman said her Nan and her brother were thrilled.
‘’They were so happy we had organised a party for them,’’ Ms Redman said.
‘’When I told them their story was going to appear in the newspaper, they just cried and hugged each other...they were so happy.
‘’Nan has been spoiled. She said she has never seen that many flowers and cards. She was so touched.’’
The youngest of five children, Jack and Gladys were born on March 14, 1927. They grew up living in a house in Railway Street and attended Corrimal Public School.
Gladys worked in the paper shop on the corner opposite the now Palm Court Hotel.
Jack drove trucks for Corrimal transport company Colmans.
One of their fondest memories growing up was when Mr Street (Streets Ice Cream) lit up the big bear licking the ice cream.
‘’It was a huge event in the local area and Nan tells me it was her mother who taught Mr Street how to make ice cream,’’ Ms Redman said.
Jack now lives just a ‘’stone’s throw’’ from the Corrimal house the twins grew up in, while Gladys is in nearby East Corrimal.
Both widowed, the pair get together most Sundays to enjoy a nice lunch usually cooked by Jack.
‘’They are still quite independent in mind and body. They don’t rely on carers at all,’’ Ms Redman said.
‘’It was only recently that we got disabled stickers for them so they don’t have to walk too far to the shops.’’
Ms Redman added her Nan was a ‘’gorgeous soul’’.
‘’I can’t speak highly enough of her. She just has the most beautiful, caring soul,’’ she said.
‘’She is one of those traditional types of grandmothers who never swears, never drinks and never whinges.
‘’She would give the shirt off her back just to help somebody.’’
