Lake Illawarra had been turning it on with plenty of nice sized flathead in the channel around the bridge and bowling club area.
There is photo evidence of a 95cm monster flatty that was released somewhere near Picnic Island. The heavy rain we had earlier, has pushed a lot of bait out and there has been big bream hanging around near the break walls, grabbing an easy feed as it floats by.
Best results should come by using a prawn or crab bait with fresh nippers a standout but don’t forget small plastics in the colours that match the bait.
With moon out and about, tailor have been moving in to the lake on the evening tide and actively feeding on small bait schools so try chromed metals and minnows.
The swell was still up on the weekend so the rock fishing was extremely quiet with many spots written off as dangerous.
The bone yard near Bombo fished well for bream and luderick on the weekend morning tides.
It’s very well protected from the swell but has just enough surge and white water to stir up to get fish actively feeding and a bit of burley always helps.
Snapper boys found good reds out on inshore reefs and the local Department of Primary Industries Fisheries fads were holding a lot of smaller dolphin fish up to 80cm. They are great action on light gear so if you want a bit of fun take your bream gear out and give the drag a workout.
