Fire and Rescue NSW crews worked to stem an oil leak from the eight-metre vessel, after being alerted to its predicament by the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) about 11.30am.
“We’ve got the hazardous materials crews from Shellharbour putting booms around the vessel to catch any leakage of any oily-type substances,” FRNSW Inspector John Hawes said.
“RMS are working with the owner to try and get the vessel salvaged. They’re hoping it will be done tomorrow [Wednesday].
“In the meantime, the booms will stay around it to catch anything that does leak out of it.”
No one was on the vessel at the time.
It is understood the vessel had been on the radar of the RMS, who is working with the owner to have it removed.
The RMS has been contacted for comment.
