This was especially the case when he came crashing down on the Monster Skatepark ramp and broke his leg, smashing his tibia in four places.
But two years down the track the 17-year-old is celebrating after winning the open division of the NSW Scooter Championships at the same Sydney skate park.
“It was a great feeling….especially winning it at Monster,’’ Angus said.
“After I broke my leg back in 2015 I was out of action for a good five to six months. When I returned to the ramp I must admit I had some second thoughts about getting back into it but once I hopped on the scooter and got started it felt so natural and great.’’
The Towradgi rider has indeed enjoyed his fair share of success since returning from injury.
Last year he won the 16 and under division of the NSW Scooter Championships and placed fourth in the same category at the 2016 Australasian Scooter Championships in Brisbane.
Angus’ best mate Dave Dugan actually won the Australasian open category in 2016, upstaging some of the best riders from Australia, New Zealand and Asia in the process.
Angus is looking to replicate this success at the 2017 Australasian Scooter Championships in Melbourne on April 29-30.
“I’m feeling fit and ready to give it my best crack,’’ he said.
“Dave did really well last year and I’ll be doing my best to do just as well this year.
“We ride together pretty much every day at Fairy Meadow Skate Park. I’d like to think I can follow his lead and become the best amateur rider in the country.’’
Angus, who is a Year 12 student at Corrimal High School, also finds the time to do scooter coaching clinics with Wollongong City Council for Youth Off the Streets.
“I’m pretty fortunate I have some good sponsors in Vade Clothing, Envy Scooters and Korrupt Skatepark, which makes getting to and competing in major championships easier,’’ he said. “I just love riding my scooter. I have ever since I got one for my 12th birthday.’’
