‘’This is our first real gig. We’re really keen to get out and put on a good show,’’ he said..
The week, which runs until Monday, April 9, is an opportunity for young people to share ideas, attend live events, have their voices heard and be recognised for the great contribution they make to their community.
Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery was excited Wollongong Youth Services was again supporting National Youth Week and offering a wide ranging program of activities for the city’s young people.
‘’This year’s program has been developed using feedback from more than 350 young people and 25 community service providers and has events not only in Wollongong, but also in Dapto, Thirroul and Berkeley. This is particularly important as it ensures Youth Week is more accessible,’’ Cr Bradbery said.
‘Get involved, be heard, make a difference’ is the theme of Youth Week 2017.
With this in mind Wollongong, Shoalhaven, Kiama and Shellharbour councils have combined to run Speak, Share, Change forums.
Featuring guest speakers from Headspace, the Illawarra Legal Centre and NSW Police, the forums will be held on April 5 between 10am-12noon at locations across the Illawarra and cover social media and mental health.
‘’This is a really exciting initiative that looks at social media and mental health – two issues that are important to our young people,’’ Cr Bradbery said.
‘’It’s a collaborative conversation and I’m looking forward to hearing about these issues, and what the representatives and young people have to say.’’
