In its 19th year, the school’s annual deep-sea charter is the highlight of Project Neptune, the school’s fishing program made possible with support from NSW/DPI Fisheries, Fisheries Officer Stephen Thurstan, Aquilla Charter Services and Leisure Coast Bait and Tackle.
10 students set out from Wollongong Harbour at daybreak and fished right up to and past the rain squalls and building seas that arrived around midday and they didn’t seem to care as the fish kept biting.
At stumps, there were some very nice snapper and flatties on ice from the 27 fish that came over the side that also included red rock cod, sergeant baker, sweep a small kingie and some slimy mackerel.
For the first time ever, only a few queasy tummies, but no one fell prey to sea sickness and everyone went home with fresh fish for dinner!
