At last Tuesday’s meeting, Kiama council approved the second stage of plans to redevelop the Uniting Mayflower aged care facility on Belinda Street, Gerringong.
The $20 million redevelopment will include accommodation and communal spaces, based on a ‘household’ model of care, whereby residents live in smaller groups or ‘households’.
Each household will have its own kitchen, dining and lounge areas.
Other features will include landscaped gardens, an on-site café, chapel, a community and wellness centre, and a range of adaptable activity areas.
Leonie Stewart has been a Uniting Mayflower Independent Living resident for more than six years.
Mrs Stewart said most of the Uniting Mayflower community is supportive of the redevelopment.
“I'm very keen for it to go ahead,” she said.
