Lots of big blue marlin were getting about out over the Continental Shelf and beyond and nearly all that were hooked won their freedom before a tag could be inserted for Fisheries research purposes.

At a depth of 45 metres, the Port Macquarie offshore artificial reef is the deepest reef built by DPI so far.
Just six months after construction in February 2016, the diversity being identified around the structure represents some of the fastest recruitment of fish to a reef so far seen by DPI.
Following more recent surveys of the reef, the total count of fish species identified on the reef has now reached 15, including many popular recreational species such as snapper and pearl perch.
