While the forecast was for rain the heavens were kind on close to 500 people who turned out just after 5.45am at Coledale RSL Memorial Hall.
Just before 6am they heard the route for the march had changed and where the best vantage point would now be to watch.
Coledale RSL Sub Branch president Jim Bates started proceedings with a welcome followed by two students from Coledale Public School, Ella Keers and Billy Banyard, reading a story about Matron Ida May Greaves from World War I. Then two songs were performed by the school choir as the sun created magnificent colours across the morning sky in honour of the many men and women who have served their country.
Davis Green gave a prayer of thanksgiving, Judy Bull read a letter sent from a solider from World War I.and Bob Hayley read a poem called Mates. “Today we are thinking of our mates,” he said.
The service ended with the Australian and New Zealand national anthems.
