Also as an ex infantry soldier I can say that televised sport such as NRL and AFL has a place on ANZAC day. Many hours sitting in pits, relentless rainfall in jungle ambushes and time out having a brew on patrol saw Diggers reflecting on their respective teams history, achievements and futures. It brought normality and a welcomed diversion if only for a moment. Sport and service to this great country has a place together and relevance. Following ANZAC day formalities and two up Diggers enjoy watching teams play hard and pause for commemorations and mark their respect before the whistle is blown. ANZAC day celebrates all that is Australian, their sacrifice and their memories are sheltered in the embrace of Australiana. War is such a terrible thing. Lest We Forget.

There are a lot of veteran's that go to these games as long as we remember what the day is about Remembering what our veterans have done for us and Respecting them. There is no issue. A lot of them find today very difficult so after a big day why can't they relax and watch a game of footy.
