The Disability Trust has much to be excited about. The Trust, along with people with disabilities and their families and many other local services, were from the outset very involved in the advocacy campaigns that resulted in the launch of National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in July 2013.
Now on the eve of the NDIS being rolled out in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, The Disability Trust is ready to ensure a smooth transition for people with disabilities.
The Disability Trust is an experienced NDIS provider already servicing 495 participants from as far south as the Victorian border, up through Canberra/ ACT and north to Western Sydney.

Margaret Bowen the CEO of The Disability Trust said, “We are keen to share our learnings over the last three years as an experienced NDIS provider to help support people to navigate the new personalised arrangements.
“The Disability Trust is fiercely proud of the fact that some 40 years ago we started out in Wollongong with just a handful of staff and we now employ over 1500 staff and provide an extensive range of services and supports to over 3500 people with a disability and their families.”
The Trust is ready and able to assist people with access to such services as; supported independent living and accommodation services; professional clinical and therapy services including speech therapy, psychology, occupational therapy, exercise physiology and behaviour support; and a range of group based and individualised community options.
Trusted Supports Coordination, which operates as a separate entity of The Trust, is also available to assist clients to manage and direct their own services and maximise independence, choice and control over their lives.
“Support Coordination can help you get the most out of your plans and funding,” Ms Bowen said. “We are committed to listening and responding and finding the best solutions to meet your needs.
“The Disability Trust was established by and for people with disabilities and their families and has retained at our heart the culture of a ‘people first’ organisation,” Margaret said.
“It is people with disabilities and their families that are at the very centre of what we do. Our staff have an unrelenting focus on supporting our participants and their parents and carers. We are an active member of The Illawarra Disability Alliance and are committed to working collaboratively with other local organisations to achieve outcomes that best meet the needs of each and every individual.”
The Disability Trust is happy to talk to people with disabilities or their families to provide information about how the NDIS will work and how they can best prepare for it.
