IT certainly wasn’t pretty, but Dapto’s 20-12 victory over Wests last Saturday was proof of just how much winning has become a habit for the Canaries.

In a grand final rematch, Wests seemed to have momentum for longer stretches of the contest, but looked up and found themselves down on the scoreboard after some touches of class from the Canaries key men.
It was a match missing some star-power for both sides, but it was that ability to counter-punch while under the pump that saw Dapto drop just one game en route to last year’s title.
It also sets up an intriguing clash this week against Corrimal who undoubtedly produced the performance of the opening round in defeating Berkeley 32-10.
The Cougars ran in six tries, including three to young star Tony Pellow, to head to Dapto Showground as competition leaders.
Dapto will no doubt provide a litmus test but it’s clear the Cougars have warmed to new captain-coach Jimmy Grehan’s approach in the preseason.
