In somewhat concerning news from DPI/Fisheries, they have advised of an outbreak of white spot disease that is a highly contagious viral disease of crustaceans including crabs, lobsters and especially farmed prawns.

The co-operation from the fishing community is sought for anglers not to use as bait, any prawns bought from supermarkets and seafood outlets meant for us to eat, as apparently the disease does not pose a threat to human health or food safety.
If you detect white spots under the shell of your bait prawns, you are urged to contact the Emergency Animal Disease hotline on 1800 675 888 and you should dispose of in your home red lid garbage bin and not back into any water way.

DPI/Fisheries have advised the Port Stephens FAD is missing and that retrieval of all NSW east coast FADS will commence during May.
Anglers are invited to submit fishing reports/captures from around any of these FADS to assist with research and placement come summer 2017-18.
