DPI/Fisheries reports on two gents from Sydney’s Hoxton Park area, who appeared in Burwood District Court for possessing excess shellfish including 1844 cockles, 1328 oysters, 8 tapestry shells and 4 snails at Iron Cove on the Parramatta River.

Both men pleaded guilty, were convicted and fined $1500 each and ordered to pay $1160 each in legal costs and despite neither having previous ‘history’, their indiscretions cost them a total of $5320.
Sydney Harbour is closed to the taking of all shellfish and anyone wishing to collect invertebrates is reminded that they must ensure that they are hand gathered in an area that is open to collecting, pay the recreational fishing fee and adhere to strict bag and size limits.
