MacDonald’s effort got the Dragons within two but, with Gareth Widdop not sighted in the second half due to a knee injury, attention turned to the part-timers to take the crucial goal.
Dugan eventually stepped up a delivered one of the great Anzac Day plays, though it wasn’t enough to get the win with a Mitchell Pearce field goal snatching the win for the Roosters in golden point.
“I was a bit nervous to start with,” Dugan said.
“I was going through all the kickers we have in the team thinking about who was going to take it. I went to Laf [Tim Lafai] first because that was his good side and he said ‘nah I can’t I’m cramping’ so I just had to take it.
“Thankfully it went over and we were in the game.”
