Illawarra Mercury readers respond to 'hipster coffee rant'

OPINION

The other week I wrote an opinion piece about a coffee travesty occurring frequently across the Illawarra – the lack of foam on a cappuccino.

(Thankyou Dean Witheridge for your description: “hipster rant”. Couldn’t have summed it up better)

This must have hit the heart strings of the community as I quickly discovered I am not the only one annoyed by the carbon copy coffees being handed out despite each branded differently.

Just to refresh your memories, my gripe was how flat whites regularly look exactly like a cappuccino and vice versa (see photo above).

Clearly thieves have stolen the precious froth?

I was surprised the large majority of the comments from Illawarra Mercury readers were in support and many others happily suggested places where I could find a decent cappuccino with froth (like they’re meant to have).

How did the hipster burn his tongue? He drank coffee before it was cool.

Yes, there were a few trolls airing their concerns over the “quality journalism” this portrayed in this piece but I think they missed the point.

It is an opinion piece, where people (often journalists) write about a social issue topical at the time.

Yes, there are more pressing issues in the world like Donald Trump’s hair and the portrayal of Allan Bond in a TV biopic that’s not rating too well.

However with all of life’s negativity we need to lighten up and find some form of happiness, be it the froth in a cappuccino.

So below is a list of some suggestions offered to me, though there is an interesting thing to come from the results.

I couldn’t see any comment that recommended cappuccino’s in the Illawarra’s northern suburbs beyond Corrimal?

What are your thoughts? Write them in the comments or email: desiree.savage@fairfaxmedia.com.au (photos, or evidence, of decent coffee welcomed)
